The Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board has put up for auction the former YWCA Huber Heights campus, which shut down not long after it opened.

ADAMHS officials said in January its board of trustees approved the sale of the property, located at 7650 Timbercrest Drive, partnering with a government auction website to handle the sale.

A post on the GovDeals website, an online marketplace for government agencies to sell surplus property and items, shows the 19-acre campus has a starting big of $500,000.

The property, which includes 11 buildings and a 20,000-square-foot administrative building, has a total estimated value of $5.7 million, according to appraisal documents on GovDeals.com.

The auction is set to close on Feb. 28. An open house is scheduled for Feb. 17 to allow interested buyers an opportunity to view the property.

YWCA Dayton took over the lease of the Huber Heights campus in June 2019. In 2022, YWCA was slated to receive $500,000 of state capital dollars to go toward renovation costs for the campus, but it never received the state funding.

The property was reverted back to ADAMHS last summer.

Officials with YWCA Dayton said in September the decision to step away from the property was due largely to ongoing management costs of the campus exceeding the organization’s short- and long-term revenues.

The Timbercrest Drive campus, situated along Taylorsville Road, west of Troy Pike, formerly served as the Montgomery County Development Center, which closed in 2018.

Not to be confused with the YMCA of Greater Dayton — which offers programming based around health and wellness, exercise, and community-building — the YWCA of Greater Dayton focuses on social issues, with some of its core work including its domestic violence shelter, permanent supportive housing program and other related services for survivors.

YWCA Dayton is based in downtown Dayton, with an additional location in Preble County, while the YMCA of Greater Dayton has numerous locations across the region, including the Y at the Heights, located at 7251 Shull Road in Huber Heights.
